JR Alcohol Estimator

Monitor Ethanol Production During Fermentation

GOfermentor Jr with Alcohol Estimator sensor attached

Track Alcohol Production in Real Time

The JR Alcohol Estimator replaces the standard pressure-sensitive vent valve with one featuring an integrated gas flow sensor. The sensor measures the cumulative volume of CO2 gas released during fermentation.

A cable connects the sensor-equipped valve to the JR controller unit. The controller screen displays the total volume of gas vented, and the free internet-based JR app shows ethanol produced and concentration levels in the fermentor.

Key Features

How It Works

Gas Flow Sensor

Integrated sensor in the vent valve measures the cumulative volume of CO2 gas released during fermentation, providing accurate tracking of fermentation progress.

App Monitoring

Free internet-based JR app displays ethanol produced and concentration levels. Monitor fermentation remotely from your smartphone or computer.

Easy Installation

Simply replaces the standard vent valve. New JR units can be ordered with the gas-measuring vent pre-installed. Units manufactured prior to 2022 can be retrofitted.

The Science

How Ethanol Estimation Works

Knowing the alcohol concentration during fermentation is essential for winemakers. One simple and effective method is to measure the total volume of CO2 gas produced during fermentation.

Once fermentation is underway, the evolved gas is almost entirely CO2. The amount of CO2 is directly proportional to the amount of ethanol produced. By measuring cumulative gas volume over time, the alcohol concentration in the fermentor can be estimated with good accuracy.

The JR Alcohol Estimator replaces the standard pressure-sensitive vent valve with one featuring an integrated gas flow sensor. A cable connects the sensor-equipped valve to the JR controller, which transmits data to the free internet-based JR app for real-time monitoring.

Proven Accuracy

Predicted vs. Measured Ethanol — Within ± 0.25% v/v

Predicted vs Offline EtOH %v/v — graph showing close correlation between gas-flow-predicted and laboratory-measured ethanol concentrations
